Is YG Entertainment coming up with new K-pop group in 2024?

YG Entertainment, one of the top talent management companies in South Korea has exciting news in store. The agency’s chief producer and founder, Yang Hyun Suk, revealed his plans to debut more than one K-pop in 2024.

The agency reaffirmed its plans to initiate numerous projects to scout talent in South Korea and abroad nations via an official statement. It has definite plans to introduce rookie K-pop groups this year. YG has officially announced the 2024 YG NATIONAL AUDITION TOUR to search for suitable idols for their upcoming K-pop band.

2024 YG NATIONAL AUDITION TOUR

The nationwide talent search commenced on January 13, 2024, and will continue until February 18, 2024. The audition will be held in various locations in eight cities, Jeju, Gwangju, Jeonju, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, Wonju, and Seoul. All Korean residents who were born between 2006 and 2014 will be eligible to participate in the tour.

Ever since BLACKPINK members terminated their solo contracts with the agency, the future of YG has hung in limbo. Amid legal struggles, bad revenues and sales, and the agency’ losing its client, many worried about YG’s future. The news of introducing new K-pop groups comes as a welcome reprieve to many, and rest assured that YG is making efforts to turn things around.

In addition, YG also divulged information about the newest musical venture of one of their groups. The boy band Treasure, who has been on a hiatus for a couple of months, will be releasing new music soon and is gearing up for a second Japanese tour, titled “REBOOT,” in March of this year.

What is the new K-pop group in YG Entertainment?

BABYMONSTER, also known by its alternative name Baemon, is YG Entertainment’s latest K-pop band. The group was presented with a “high-teen” image, which is quite different from any of YG’s previous female bands.

The girl group was the first K-pop band the agency debuted since BLACKPINK’s debut in 2016 and consists of six members: Rami, Ahyeon, Chiquita, Asa, Rora, Pharita, and Ruka.

The promotion of BABYMONSTER has been planned since December 2022, when the agency posted a cryptic video trailer heralding the arrival of a new group to the musical scene. BABYMONTER officially made its debut on November 27, 2023, with the pre-release single “Batter Up.”

The single generated ample success and the music video of the same racked up over 15 million views within three days. The success of “Batter Up” also helped plummet YG’s stocks.

New Groups vs BABYMONSTER controversy

The entertainment agency is in full work-on mode so that it can search for suitably talented members to introduce new K-pop bands this year. However, many fans find this news to be a little controversial, as YG recently debuted a new K-pop group named BABYMONSTER.

BABYMONSTER’s promotional activities have been negligible since their debut, especially in live performances. YG confirmed that the rookie group won’t be participating in music shows to promote their single and their upcoming album.

This prompted fans to suggest that the management company should focus on their current clients rather than focus their energy and money on debuting new groups.
